Easy Multitasking

Tonight I felt like being a bit more productive. I was going to just go to bed early so I can wake up tomorrow, but one thing you have to realize about that strategy is that it only makes tomorrow harder. So tonight, I’m doing a little writing while I also do some Calculus for school. I’m not really good at math, and I tend to put off the work as long as I can. Tomorrow is Friday already though and I was starting to really feel some intense anxiety about what I need to get done this week.

Technically I have until the 26th to finish everything and despite being behind I still have decent marks in the class. All of this is a dangerous acknowledgment. It all gives me a bunch of excuses to put it all off. So here’s what I’m doing:

I’m writing this article in between chapters of school work. I have one major tip for productivity in today’s world. At the risk of sounding like an ad, you need to have at least 2 monitors. A bigger workspace means a bigger potential. It’s important to have enough physical space to lay out all your plans.

I don’t have a large desk but it is big enough for my mousepad, paper, notes, and keyboard. If you’re in need of more space don’t fret. Look up how to turn up your mouse’s sensitivity and make the best of the small space you have.

Another thing you can do is to partition out blocks of work between two or more activities. This doesn’t have to be only work it can easily be something like 15 minutes of a game that you like to play. I tend to go for idle games like Blush Blush or Shop Titans. I’ve written about shop titans before so go check out that article with some tips on how to lay it all out so you can take some micro-breaks from your work

I, for example, tend to like to write to de-stress myself. I’m also doing a third thing. I’m listening to an album for my next album review for Metal Scribes. It can be easy to put on a video or stream off to the side and be chronically distracted. I don’t really recommend it, but I have done it before. I tend to have it take up a minimal amount of workspace. I generally use it only for background noise. I won’t really be doing that anymore as I’m trying to enjoy musical content to review it for Metal Scribes.

I just finished a chapter of school work and wrote a story. Try what I’ve suggested here. I feel accomplished for the day and won’t have trouble sleeping now. You’d be surprised how moderate multitasking can give you energy and inspiration. Tomorrow I get my exercise and start it all over again. I’ll be writing my Album review then.

So, give it a try. As long as it doesn’t put you behind in any way it’s all productivity. If you’re a student like me find an idle game or write about a hobby you have off to the side when you feel like you need to take a break from it all. One or two paragraphs are all it takes for me to get back into the groove of my other tasks. Have fun, stay safe, stay healthy, and above all stay productive!
