World of Warcraft: Shadowlands. My Thoughts

I’ve played World of Warcraft off and on for over a decade. Hell, I even worked customer support for Blizzard for a couple of years. It’s safe to say I love this game despite the flawed expansions that have come out. Honestly, I don’t think there was ever a bad expansion. The only thing I didn’t like was pathfinder's achievements. I would honestly have just preferred that I pay out the ass in gold for flying. It worked in BC all the way through Pandaria. Want people to spend more time on it? What you need to do then is make it more expensive.

The real gold sinks have been overpriced special mounts. I never got a Brutasaur from BfA but I did finally complete a pathfinder achievement. Just in time for a new expansion. I hear though that in Shadowlands pathfinder is going to be considerably easier to obtain.

The biggest thing I love about Shadowlands is the new leveling experience. I haven’t had any major glitches other than a few issues with the damage scaling on a boss fight in Auchenai Crypts and one quest for the Highmountain Tauren unlock. I’m actually really proud of Blizzard for getting so much right out of the gate.

I’ve never been able to buy a WoW token with gold before. This is something that I hope to rectify this month. I’ve already got around 17k on my Horde realm. Once I get to level 60 the money-making spree begins. I’m also in the market for a guild on Scarlet Crusade. Really wanted to play on Area 52 but I hate waiting in queues. I have a bank character set up and I’m using TSM. Somehow this became about me. Sorry about that.

I liked the story so far. I actually have been trying not to instantly skip all cutscenes. I’m currently about to hit level 60 and I’m still questing for the Night Fae. So far I’ve found this to be the most creative expansion in years. I wish they could have erased War Mode, and I also wish that the level squish meant they were going back to traditional talent trees. Those are my only complaints really. I find it much more enjoyable to explore what they did right.

Leveling is fast. The amount of time spent per level increases at an appropriate rate. It may take me all the way until the last zone to make it to level 60. Considering that I got locked into the Shadowlands story at level 48 that’s a pretty reasonable XP distribution. I can’t wait to spend quality time in the World of Warcraft again. Good job Blizzard. I give you an enthusiastic thumbs up.
